Service offered: Smart Works is a charity that aims to empower women by supporting them back into employment. Our fantastic, free service is available to any female over the age of 16, from any borough, with a confirmed job interview. It is a two part service; the first is a styling session with two volunteer stylists who will help each client pick out an interview appropriate outfit including shoes, handbags and accessories. The second part is an interview training session with an HR specialist. Our clients spend approximately an hour in this session to help them prepare, practise and boost their confidence before their interview. It is a simple but extremely effective service and 59% of the women who visit Smart Works go on to get a job within six months. Once a client has been offered a job, she can come back and visit us to receive five more items of clothing to create a capsule wardrobe before her first pay cheque comes in. We also have a network that hosts monthly events for our clients that we will invite her to, as it is a great way to stay in touch with all of our previous clients. We currently have six offices across the UK: two in London (North office - 89 Shepperton Road, London, N1 3DF and West office - St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing, Exmoor Street, W10 6DZ) and one in Edinburgh (Studio 3.01, St. Margaret’s House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh, EH7 6AE), Manchester (65-81 St Petersgate, Stockport, SK1 1DS), Reading (94 London Street, Reading, RG1 4SJ) and Birmingham (695 Bristol Road South, Birmingham, B31 2JT).
