Service offered: A free service for anyone giving their time, unpaid, to look after a family member, friend or neighbour. The service offers: Statutory carer's assessments to identify needs and determine eligibility to receive. An emergency planning service with workshops and a keyring with a 24 hour number for authorised access to emergency plan. Personal support via link workers. Advice drop-ins. An online website of searchable national and local services and resources. A bi-monthly newsletter listing local and national events and services. Occasional learning and training opportunities. Regular social opportunities. A carers identity card giving access to discounts on services. Help, support and training for any employers in Southampton wishing to become a carer friendly company. Carers in Southampton is a project within Southampton Mencap. The service launched in September 2014 and was created to empower unpaid carers through access to information, advice, support and learning opportunities to enhance their choice, control and independence.
