General information
Service offered: Formed in 1867, the ethos of our organisation remains much the same as it was when were formed which is to help visually impaired people to be and stay independent through information and learning activities, social groups, and empowerment work. We are a completely independent local society proudly serving over 1,000 visually impaired people in Newcastle. We have no financial connection with the RNIB, Henshaws, Action for Blind People, the Macular Society or any other national organisation. We do however work closely in partnership with these and other organisations. Through our staff and volunteers we provide a range of information support and opportunities for people from a coping with sight loss course to emotional support and campaigning to make Newcastle a more accessible place for visually impaired people.
