General information
Service offered: Meeting New Horizons delivers The Macmillan Benefits Advice & Advocacy Service in Doncaster which provides a one stop support service for people affected by Cancer, supporting people from the point of diagnosis through treatment and onwards. We offer access to independent advice and information including benefit entitlement, advocacy and support at benefit Tribunals, and access to Macmillan and other charity grants. Our team is equipped with the appropriate specialisms and knowledge, based upon many years of experience in welfare benefits across the board. Promotion and engagement of the service has taken place through the partnership with the Doncaster Macmillan Information Service and Cancer Support Groups, by networking with statutory and voluntary agencies and awareness raising events within the community. Our team can offer guidance and support to help ease the burden of money worries at any stage of your diagnosis; that at times can be confusing and overwhelming. We will help you understand what is available to you, the steps that need to be taken with our assistance so that you can focus on your health and worry less about money. Money may not be the first of your worries, but when you or someone close to you has been diagnosed with cancer, you may have financial concerns should your household income alter. You may find that you have an increase in expenditure on everyday costs including household and fuel, dietary changes and clothing. If you are struggling to cope with the financial impact of cancer, there is help available. Here at Meeting New Horizons our team can provide one to one support over the telephone and home visits or at a suitable community based venue. We also provide a free and confidential welfare rights service for people living with and beyond cancer plus their families and carers who live within the Doncaster Metropolitan Borough.
