General information

Service offered: In the UK we support refugees and migrants from Afghanistan and neighbouring countries and help them reach their potential. Our services include a supplementary school, ESOL classes, employment workshops, a women’s support group, youth and family support services, drop-in legal clinics and telephone advice, volunteer placements, and cultural and social events. We also visit individuals and families in detention. In Afghanistan we promote human rights and work towards relieving poverty. We have recently launched the first two Citizens’ Advice Centres in Afghanistan (Kabul and Baghlan Province), funded by the UK government, to provide free, impartial and confidential advice on a wide range of issues and services, to those least able to access justice and their rights, including: women and young people, internally displaced people, returnees, and the disabled. The ACAA seeks to serve the community it is based in, and therefore examines requests for help on an individual basis to see what can be done for the beneficiary. Things like translation service and practical help can be provided by the charity, but the main official services are listed below. We deliver ESOL classes for adults and Supplementary Schools services for children. At weekends a Muslim Women's Group meets to provide a safe space for discussion. The charity runs a mentoring program to provide individualised advice and help for migrants and refugees in the UK. In partnership with Duncan Lewis and Hayes Solicitors, the charity also provides drop-in legal advice clinics. These are free and are open to any question, though immigration, family and housing/benefit law are usually the focus. Our services are open to all, though the majority of service users are refugees and migrants from Afghanistan.
