General information
Service offered: Clinic services - Kent Law Clinic exists to provide free legal advice to people who live or work in Kent and cannot afford to pay for legal advice and to educate students studying law at the University of Kent. Primarily, the Law Clinic offers advice in the form of a free Monday evening advice session with a legal advisor. Advice sessions are offered for the following areas of law: • family • housing (e.g. tenancy issues) • wills and probate • civil litigation (e.g. contract disputes, consumer law) If we are unable to offer an Advice Session, in some other limited cases we may be able to offer written or telephone advice. The Law Clinic is more active during academic term times. Our advice sessions run from October to June by appointment. There are no advice sessions between mid June and October but we will try to refer you to other local services. In some cases, we are able to offer extended advice and/or casework. Predominantly this is in the following areas of law: • family • housing • immigration/asylum • welfare benefits We are unable to advise in relation to the following areas of law: criminal, employment, medical negligence and personal injury.
Target group: Local people in Kent who have no access to legal advice elsewhere.
Area served: Advice sessions are currently held online via Zoom.
