General information

Service offered: Friends Without Borders (Portsmouth) (FWB) is a charity that provides support for asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants within the Portsmouth area by the provision of financial and other assistance and by raising awareness of the general public. We run a drop-in centre every Thursday between 10:00am and 1pm where we provide a safe and welcoming space for socialising, with free refreshments. Our caseworkers can assist with things such as school applications, registering with doctors, NHS forms, food bank vouchers and signposting. Once a month, we have a visit by Citizens Advice Portsmouth, who can deal with more complex casework and immigration issues which do not require a specialist immigration solicitor. Citizens Advice can refer to our Access to Justice project for further legal advice. We offer free English conversation classes in small groups. We have a Wednesday allotment project and a monthly woodworking scheme.

Target group: We help asylum seekers and other immigrants living in the local community of Portsmouth

Area served: Portsmouth and surrounding area
