General information
Service offered: Friends Without Borders is a charity that provides support for asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants within the Portsmouth area. We run a drop on on a Thursday morning where everyone is welcome and where refreshments are provided. We have Citizens Advice also present for pre booked appointments through us regarding any issues, such as finance, housing, and some immigration issues which they can assist with. We also have our own in house immigration specialist (Access to Justice), who can deal with certain immigration issues. Caseworkers are at the drop in to help navigate the client through the bureaucracy of living in a new city, and can signpost to various other support networks throughout the city. We also are able to financially support a few asylum seekers where appropriate. We are fortunate to have the Labour MP Stephen Morgan attend monthly clinics, and he is able to speak directly to the Home Office regarding some asylum cases and assist if they are moving slowly. We try to aid socialisation with activities ranging from gardening to woodworking as well as offering befriending and one to one English lessons.
