General information
Service offered: The Bridgend Young People’s Project consists of three schemes which provide accommodation and support to homeless young people in the area. The MAC (Multi Agency Complex Needs) scheme provides 24-hour supported accommodation to 5 homeless young people aged 16-21. The young people we support have complex needs such as behavioural, substance misuse, mental health and offending issues. Staff work with the young people to address their individual needs, working alongside other agencies such as probation, youth offending service and social services. Overall, the aim is to build the young person’s independent living skills enabling them to maintain their tenancy when they move into their own accommodation, prevent reoffending, and preventing future instances of homelessness. The 18-21 Project provides 13 homeless young people in Bridgend and Maesteg with shared supported accommodation and support. Staffing is provided 24-hours and we support the young people with their personal development around issues such as accommodation, finances, physical and mental health, lifestyle, education, employment and relationships. The young people are usually supported for up to 12 months before they move on into their own home. Step Down provides single and shared flats and houses for up to 20 homeless young people in the Bridgend area who have less intensive support needs. Support is usually provided for up to 6 months and often includes help with their personal development, with a particular focus on independent living. Often, young people will move from the MAC or 18-21 to step down or we will take referrals from other services in agreement with the local authority
