General information
Service offered: We offer a selection of services for children & families across Kent, Medway and parts of Southeast London who are either facing the death of a loved one or have had someone significant in their life die. We offer post bereavement support programmes for children & young people aged 6 years to 17 years. This is in the form of a non-residential therapeutic weekend programme which provides an opportunity for children to be able to talk about their experiences, thoughts, feelings, emotions and undertake meaningful memory making, using art, craft, music and talking therapies. The children work alongside fully trained volunteers. A two-day parent support programme runs alongside the children and young people’s weekend groups. We hold specialized support programmes for children & young people following a traumatic death. A one-day special focus workshop for children and parents affected by stillbirth and neonatal death for is held twice a year. We offer 6 to 8 sessions of pre-bereavement support via individualized sessions, which can be whole family work or for children only, taking place at home, at school, at the GP practice, hospice, hospital, wherever feels most comfortable. Telephone support and advice are available as well as online advice via the website. Referrals can be made by professionals such as early help, school and GP practices or families can self-refer. HOLG is able to offer bespoke training for schools, social services and other organisations, on childhood bereavement and impact of death on the family.
