Julian House - Homeless Outreach Team (Formerly Community Housing Aid)

We have an Assertive Outreach Team who go out onto the streets of Exeter to help people off the streets and into accommodation. The service works assertively with all rough sleepers / Those leading street-based lifestyles which may involve begging and street-drinking. The outreach team pro-actively identifies rough sleepers through regular outreach sessions and responds swiftly to local reports of people sleeping rough or engaged in street-based activity. It takes a multi-agency and person-centred approach to supporting people off the streets and into appropriate accommodation and services, as quickly as possible. It seeks to secure a rapid, supported re-connection for rough sleepers who are not from the local area. It actively works with the whole community to improve the lives of rough sleepers, increase understanding and awareness of rough sleeping and reduce anti-social behaviour and to improve the environment.

West Devon Borough Council Housing Department

Assessment of entitlement to housing for people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. Temporary accommodation provided for people considered in priority need of housing. Temporary accommodation may be available while enquiries are made about eligibility. General housing advice and information for private and Housing Association tenants and homeless people. Rent deposit scheme.

Samaritans of Plymouth, East Cornwall and South West Devon

Telephone helpline (116 123) operating 24 hours a day offering emotional support for anyone in crisis. Offers a listening and befriending service to people who are isolated, need to talk, feel in despair or who are suicidal. The national Samaritans number (116 123) can also put callers through without delay to their nearest unengaged branch.

North Devon Care and Repair

Home improvement agency offering advice and assistance to older people (60+) and disabled people of any age, who are home owners, private tenants and who need to repair, adapt or improve their homes. Advice on technical aspects of the work, finding reliable builders and arranging estimates, overseeing the work, ways of funding the work, benefit entitlement.

East Devon Family Hub

Offer a welcoming environment and serve as a central point of access for all families, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) up to age 25.
