Youth Advice Centre (YAC)

The YMCA Downslink Group Youth Advice Centre (YAC) offers advice, support and guidance to young people age 13-25 in Brighton and Hove. Our aim is to provide young people in the local area with a safe and friendly environment where they can access helpful advice and support. We offer guidance on a wide range of areas, including emotional and wellbeing support, drugs & alcohol, benefits, budgeting, neurodivergence, education & work, plus information on other local services. Our Support & Advice Service is a drop-in, so just turn up. No appointment necessary but can be made on request if needed. Young people needing condoms can pop in any time with their C-Card and ask a member of YAC staff. We also provide free period products. YAC runs a Food Market on the premises, where 16–25-year-olds can access affordable weekly groceries. Food Market open hours: Tues, Weds, Thurs 3-5pm. No appointment necessary. We also offer a Family Mediation Service. Please email or call YAC for more information. YAC now provides young people with housing support via referral ONLY. Brighton & Hove Council will refer to YAC if further support is needed. 16–25-year-olds needing advice around housing and homelessness should present to the council office in Bartholomew House for support in the first instance. Vale Community Impact

Vale Community Impact, or VCI, serves Wantage, Faringdon, Watchfield, Shrivenham and all surrounding villages in Vale of White Horse Council. It provides three services. Advice – topics include debt, benefits, employment, consumer rights and many more. Transport scheme - provides travel to hospitals, doctors and day centres for people unable to use public transport. Good Neighbour scheme – provides support to elderly and vulnerable people including befriending and shopping. VCI also hosts loneliness pop-up café’s in village halls across the district every 2-3 weeks.
