Mental Health Matters Helpline - Kent and Medway

Helpline and webchat for people with mental health problems, their carers, families and friends. The Team can offer emotional guidance and information and help people who may be feeling low, anxious or stressed or in extreme emotional distress and feel that there is nowhere else to turn. Support is also provided to people caring for another person and finding it difficult to cope. The service is confidential unless it is considered there is a risk to yourself or others.

Medway SENDIASS

The service provides parents/carers, children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities with free impartial information, advice and support which includes: support in relation to education, health and social care; support to express your views, wishes and feelings; support at meetings with schools and the Local Authority; help to complete SEND related paperwork; signposting to other support services. Support is offered via face to face meetings in the home, a community venue or our office, email, or phone contact. Access to the service is by self referral.

Holding On Letting Go

We offer a selection of services for children & families across Kent who are either facing the death of a loved one or have has someone significant die in their life. We offer post bereavement support programmes for children & young people aged 6 years to 17 years. This is in the form of a non-residential therapeutic weekend programme which provide an opportunity for children to be able to talk about their experiences, thoughts, feelings, emotions and undertake meaningful memory making, we use art, craft, music and talking therapy’s.The children will be working alongside fully trained volunteers. There is also a two-day parent support programme that runs alongside the non–residential weekend that the children and young people are attending. We also hold specialized support programmes for children & young people following a traumatic death. One day special focus workshops for Stillbirth & Neonatal death for children & parents is also available these are held twice a year. We also offer 6 to 8 sessions of pre-bereavement support individualized sessions which can be whole family work or children only which can take place at home, at school, at the GP practice, hospice, hospital, where ever you feel most comfortable. There is Telephone support and advice available or on line if you are more comfortable with that. You can self refer to our service or professionals can do that for you. We also offer bespoke training for school, social service etc, around children bereavement & impacts of death on the family.

Kent Association for the Blind

Services for people who have a visual impairment. Advice, information, training and resource centres, low vision assessments, rehabilitation and community support services. Services are designed to enable people with a visual impairment to be as independent as possible. Provide free Talking Newspapers and a professional Transcription Service; run accredited training courses for professionals. We have sight centres in Bromley, Maidstone and Canterbury. The Maidstone sight centre is also the head office.
